Groovasmique is a global rhythm space, not a single genre.
It is guided by a sensibility rather than a category — an open, multicultural approach to music where borders dissolve and traditions meet. Our selections span decades and continents, weaving together African grooves, world music, reggae, blues, ska, singer-songwriters, and unexpected hybrids. This is music chosen not for trends, but for feeling, soul, and movement — a living archive of sound meant to connect people through rhythm.

At the heart is movement, joy, and shared humanity.
We believe rhythm is universal — something that speaks before language and beyond culture. From deeply rooted traditional sounds to modern global fusions, the music here reflects a conscious effort to bring the world closer together. It is eclectic by design, sometimes familiar, sometimes surprising, always human. If it gets your body moving or your spirit smiling — even if it just gets “Granny” tapping her toes — it belongs here.

African Grooves and Global Rhythms are our grounding force.
African music, in particular, shapes the soul of Groovasmique. It is not background sound, but an expression of life itself — tied to work, ceremony, storytelling, healing, and community. Rhythm, voice, language, and movement are inseparable. These sounds remind us that music is not something to consume, but something to live inside. Many of our favorite selections come from African artists on the continent and across the diaspora, honoring both tradition and evolution.

Music is learned through listening, moving, and play — from the very beginning of life.
Groovasmique embraces music as a natural human instinct. Children are born musicians, responding to rhythm through movement, imitation, and curiosity. Music doesn’t require perfection or performance goals — only openness. Whether rocking to a beat, clapping hands, dancing freely, or turning everyday objects into instruments, music becomes a foundation for creativity, communication, and emotional expression at every age.

We honor music as communal, not academic.
Across cultures — especially in Africa — music is inseparable from daily life. It carries history, memory, humor, grief, praise, and protest. Storytellers, praise singers, drummers, and dancers serve as living archives of culture. These traditions remind us that music is not owned by institutions, but shared by people. Groovasmique reflects that same spirit: inclusive, respectful, curious, and alive.

Groovasmique is rhythm as connection.
It is where ancient meets modern, where local becomes global, and where sound becomes movement, memory, and meaning. This is music that honors roots while embracing cross-pollination — a place to listen, move, feel, and remember that we are all part of the same rhythm. The music I get introduced to is amazingly diverse. The music I share reflects my tastes and new choices too. Always morphing in a diverse and eclectic way. I tweak the list on the go via Laptop, Phone and at my desk! So along the way in a "sublime" way I hope to keep the grooves going. It is my daily musical meditation and often surprise even myself. Every so often I will start with a clean list and go off on tangents. I could easily go "Ska" or "African Rhythms" but I have a history of listening from old Folk music to electronica and fusion. So basically there is no set format, no set times, just depends on how I am resonating! Recently the music attempts to warm the body and soul as where I am based has been bitterly cold and snowy. However time zones etc mean that it is 5 o,clock somewhere! So I am a man of few words online currently.....so the music does the talking. As ever great to hear new submissions. Check the suggestions section....and keep exploring.
